Influence: Indian Warli Paintings
Lesson Summary:
In this lesson students were introduced to the folk art of the Indian tribe the Warli's. In this lesson students investigated the motivations, uses, and traditions following the Warli paintings and created their own Warli-inspired drawings. With the students drawings, like the Warli's, they were asked to draw inspiration for their content from their daily life.
Lesson Plan 4 Objectives:
Students will be able to:
- Create a work of art based on their own narrative by brainstorming with some of their most valued memories or life experiences.
- Create a work of art using chalk (or oil pastel) on paper using techniques like blending, gradient, and smudging.
- Create a work of art that visually depicts their narrative by learning how the Warli tribe used abstract art to tell stories from daily life.
- Learn how to use pattern and repetition to help recreate a real sensory experience in a two-dimensional space by looking at examples of Warli paintings and how they successfully used those techniques in their work.
Lesson Plan 5 Objectives:
Students will be able to:
- Continue to create a work of art using white chalk (or oil pastel) on paper using skills such as blending, gradient, and smudging.
- Finish creating a work of art that visually depicts their narrative by learning how the Warli tribe used abstract art to tell stories from daily life.
- Use their knowledge of pattern and repetition to help recreate a real sensory experience in a two-dimensional space by using inspiration from Warli paintings and how they successfully used those techniques in their culture’s work.
