6th Grade Art 1 Lesson Plans
On this page you will find the listings and examples of various projects I was able to work on with the 6th grade Art 1 students at Granger Middle School during my employment with them in the Spring of 2012. Links on the right-hand side of the page allow for easy download of all lesson plans and supplemental materials utilized in the classroom during those projects.
Clay Coin Project
During this assignment, students learned about coinage and its history throughout the world. Students looked into the history of American coinage and focused on the Illinois state quarter. Students discussed and researched the imagery included on the state quarter and brainstormed what types of imagery might appear on a coin of their own. Afterward, students were able to sketch and create a ceramic currency with imagery important to them.

Perspective Letter Forts Project
This assignment exposed students to perspective drawing. Students began with the first letter of their name before creating a horizon line, vanishing point, and giving their letter dimension. Students were then able to turn their letter into a tree house/fort of their choosing.
